Live What You Believe

What do you believe?
Are you living it?
Or are you believing what you’re living?

My favorite college professor challenged us:

“Live what you believe, or you will end up believing what you live.”

It’s a subtle shift in word order, but it’s a life changing distinction.

When I’m believing what I live, my circumstances dictate what I believe. The noise of daily life can be discouraging… distracting… depressing.

When I’m believing what I live, I allow my emotions to dictate what I believe and what I do.

But.

When I live what I believe, what I believe speaks truth over my circumstances.

When I’m living what I believe, what I believe becomes action and charts my way through my circumstances… in spite of my disappointment… even in the midst of my doubt.

When I’m living what I believe, I know truth trumps emotions every time.

When life isn’t going the way I want or expect I think there’s a loudspeaker in my head challenging me, “What do you believe?!? What about NOW?!”

I know from my own experiences that how I respond to that question is my defining moment.

I want to live what I believe. I want what I believe to speak truth over every circumstance – from the smallest mundane task to tackling my biggest challenges. I know that living what I believe enables me to triumph, whether I’m facing my greatest fears or enduring life’s harshest trials.

Living what I believe means that I know what I’m grounded in and that defines my life. Living what I believe empowers me to overcome my emotions. Living what I believe allows me to look beyond my circumstances and see possibility. Living what I believe gives me vision for what can be, unhindered by what is. Living what I believe inspires me to chase my dreams with confidence.

Living what I believe challenges those around me consider the same questions, “What do you believe? Are you living it? Or are you believing what you live?”

Together, when we live what we believe, we’re empowered to overcome even more. Living what we believe means we look at our homes, our schools, our communities, and see possibility. Living what we believe casts a vision to pursue together. Living what we believe inspires us to change our world.
